Introduction of TNTC
The Church of the Nazarene in Taiwan began in 1956 when missionaries came to Taiwan to establish churches. In 1958, he felt that it was necessary to open a school to train young people, so he opened a seminary on Wuchang Street in Taipei City. In 1962, he used the US$17,500 donated by the balm bottle to purchase seven acres (8569 square meters) of Guandu Hillside land, which is the current site of the school for campus planning and expansion of enrollment.
The first dean of the school was Rev. RR Miller. In the early days, foreign missionaries served as deans and were responsible for school operations. Later, Rev. Lin Qingdong took over as dean and was also the first Chinese dean of the school. In 1973, the school issued bachelor's degree certificates for the first time. In 1976, the Department of Religious Education was added; in 1979, extended courses were launched to expand service to various churches; in 1997, a master's degree class in mission was launched.
Currently, our school has three disciplines: Master of Divinity, Master of Christian Studies and Bachelor of Theology. In addition, in response to the needs of church pastoral care, extended courses focusing on the Bible and missions are offered. At the same time, in response to the needs of the times, our school aims to train pastoral and missionary talents, and to strengthen students’ learning in diversified ways. The class method combines physical and video teaching, so that students’ learning is not limited by space and transportation, and can be maximized the learning effect.
In order to allow students to actually apply what they have learned after graduation, our teachers all have doctorates and practical pastoral experience. Therefore, what students learn in class is not only intellectual discussion, but also practical discussion. Through the strengthening of these two aspects, our graduates can not only sit and talk, but also take action, and truly become workers of the Kingdom of God that meet the needs of the times.
Taiwan Nazarene Theological Seminary is a school that trains workers for the Kingdom of God. It is also a seminary that reflects the needs of the times. We are looking forward to believers who have the gospel mission of the times to join us. God is calling His workers, and now is the time to answer the call and take action.
